From Amanda…

My passion for early childhood teaching began as early as my own preschool days. I formed a strong bond with my preschool teacher and even then, I would tell her that I wanted to be a teacher just like her. That early connection inspired a lifelong interest in helping young children learn, grow, and feel supported—just as I once did.

As an educator, I have several strengths and areas of passion that I bring to my role:

  • I am passionate about building strong, trusting relationships with children and families.
  • I value creating meaningful connections that help children feel secure and confident in their learning environment.
  • I enjoy supporting and promoting play-based learning which includes rich, engaging experiences that allow children to explore, create, and grow at their own pace.
  • I am proud of the skills I have honed with regard to team collaboration and mentorship. I enjoy working closely with my team, offering support and guidance to help create a positive, cohesive environment where everyone feels valued and inspired

Some phrases from our centre philosophy that really resonate with me include;

  • “Creating a home-like environment”
  • “play-based learning”
  • “collaborative team support.”

I believe it's so important to create a space that feels familiar and comforting. I view play-based learning as a vital foundation for children’s development across all areas. I love being hands-on with my team, offering support and mentorship to create a positive, united environment for both educators and children.

Outside of the centre, I really enjoy reading and baking. I find reading a great way to relax and learn new things, while baking allows me to be creative and share something special with family and friends.

Madelein Giliomee,
Assistant Director and Educational Leader

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care
  • Actively working towards Bachelor of Education Early Childhood
  • Diploma in Youth Development and Social work

Maddie began her career as an educator in South Africa in 2015 and continued her career after relocating to Australia in 2018.

From Maddie…

My passion for early childhood teaching first took root while I was a university student studying psychology. At the same time, I was working full-time as an au pair caring for young children. It was during this period that I discovered just how much joy and fulfillment I found in helping children learn, grow, and develop. While I enjoyed studying psychology, I found myself inspired by the hands-on experience of supporting children in their everyday learning and emotional development. The connections I built with them and the impact I could make in their lives made it clear that my true calling was in education. That realization led me to change paths and pursue a career in early childhood teaching, where I feel I can make the most meaningful difference.

As an educator, I have several strengths and areas of passion that I bring to my role:

  • Program and Planning Cycle: I have a strong interest in developing thoughtful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programs. I enjoy designing experiences that align with the children’s interests and developmental stages while also meeting curriculum outcomes. Seeing the impact of a well-planned program on children's learning and growth is incredibly rewarding.
  • Empowering and Teaching Children: One of my greatest passions is supporting children to become the best versions of themselves. I truly believe in each child’s potential, and I find purpose in guiding, nurturing, and encouraging them to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity.
  • Mentoring and Leading Educators: I also have a strong interest in leadership and mentoring within early childhood settings. I enjoy training, supporting, and inspiring new educators, helping them find their confidence and grow in their practice. Building a collaborative, passionate team is something I take great pride in.

Several key phrases from our Flourish Early Learning Centre philosophy deeply resonate with my own beliefs and approach to teaching.

  • "Each child’s learning is developed holistically" reflects my commitment to supporting not just academic development, but also each child’s emotional, social, and physical growth. I believe in seeing the whole child and meeting them where they are.
  • "An inclusive and anti-biased approach" aligns closely with my passion for creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for every child, regardless of their background or abilities. I believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and empowered to express themselves.
  • "Building trust and positive relationships" is at the heart of everything I do. I strive to create strong, open partnerships with families and foster a sense of community within the centre, knowing that these relationships are essential for each child’s sense of belonging.
  • Finally, the idea that "all children have the right to play, learn and grow" perfectly matches my belief in the importance of play-based learning and the early years as a foundation for lifelong development.

Outside of work, I really enjoy spending quality time with my two daughters, my husband, and our puppy. One of our favourite ways to connect as a family is by spending time in the great outdoors, especially going camping. Being in nature allows us to unwind, reconnect, and create lasting memories together. Watching my own children grow and learn during these experiences has given me a deeper appreciation for the value of risky and messy play. It reinforces for me how important it is to give children the freedom to explore, take risks, and engage with the world around them in meaningful and hands-on ways.
